Preserving heritage, empowering communities, and building a future rooted in culture.
TAYO was founded in 2021 by a collective of cultural practitioners, community leaders, and heritage advocates who saw the urgent need to protect Tanzania's intangible cultural heritage. What began as a small grassroots initiative in the Arusha Region has grown into a nationally recognized organization working with communities across the country.
Our journey started with a simple belief: culture is not just a relic of the past—it is a living, breathing force that can drive social change, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship. Over the years, we have revived endangered traditions, supported hundreds of creative entrepreneurs, and championed policies that recognize the value of indigenous knowledge.
Today, TAYO stands as a bridge between generations, connecting the wisdom of elders with the energy of youth, and ensuring that Tanzania's rich cultural tapestry continues to thrive for generations to come.
We protect, develop, preserve and promote intangible cultural heritage among people of all backgrounds.
A community that culturally identifies itself, respects diversity, and thrives in justice, health, and economic stability.
We are a passionate group of cultural practitioners, educators, and community advocates dedicated to preserving Tanzania's intangible heritage and empowering creative communities.
Whether you are a cultural practitioner, a student, a philanthropist, or a community leader, there is a place for you in the TAYO movement. Together, we can ensure that Tanzania's intangible cultural heritage continues to inspire, empower, and unite us.
